Hi. Hello. Welcome. I'm Sana, but you likely know me as qalbtalk. I'm a Canadian writer and artist. Professionally, I’m a research scientist and have worked in the fields of neuroscience, biomedical engineering, and with an AI startup.

Originally from Pakistan, I write in Urdu and English, and sometimes try my hand at Punjabi. My work is shaped by my deep understanding of the human brain and emotions, showcasing my unique mix of scientific expertise and creative expression.

My writing delves into themes of love, lossfaith, and the immigrant journey, blending my cultural heritage with contemporary Canadian influences. The word qalb means heart in Arabic and I chose my pen name to reflect the connection between our hearts and creative expression. As such, people say I have a way with words, fostering a deeper understanding of the human experience across diverse communities.

I’m a 90’s child and love anything steeped in that era—from gajras to churiyaan, chai to baarishghazals to handwritten letters. My writing and art are also inspired by such elements. My first cat, (Dr.) Casper, is also published, and has been acknowledged in my MSc. thesis! 😉 Now, I’m a cat-mom to a tiny furbaby named Milo. I like reading (a lot). If I’m not at a local cafe or the library, you will find me at the gym or out in nature, saying yes to new adventures.

I love connecting with new readers, so please send me a note through the Contact page.
